As interior designer, KOO was tasked with a major renovation of the 11-story Britton Budd Apartments for the Chicago Housing Authority, a 1920’s historic courtyard residence in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. KOO selected design elements that complemented the period restoration, and restored public space architectural details to meet the requirements of historic tax credit funding. Original terrazzo floors, molding, and doors were refinished and enhanced with art deco elements. Also, in addition to restoring original and period details of the residence, we refreshed the look of the space with a contemporary color palette.

The design brings the richness and graciousness of hospitality design to public housing while also responding to the rigorous requirements of senior housing.
