This 25,000 SF plaza renovation is adjacent to the architecturally significant Metropolitan Correctional Center by Harry Weese just south of Chicago’s Loop. The renovation seeks to create a sleek and inviting outdoor space to complement the modernism of the Weese building. The new plan seeks to reference the original Weese design and improve on some issues of the original plaza design including stormwater runoff, site access and usability. KOO’s design utilizes a combination of decomposed granite, similar to what is used at many Parisian parks, and pavers with black granite benches and beautifully-shaped Chanticleer Pear trees.
