KOO’s conceptual design for the closed Henson Elementary school retains the classroom portion of the original school and pairs it with a dynamic new set of assembly spaces including a gymnasium, lunchroom, gallery, and black box theater. Located in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood, the renovated portion of the school is reimagined to transform the late modernist structure into a state-of-the-art STEAM Academy.
