With a desire to accommodate a change in pedagogy as well as spark interest in their math curriculum, City Colleges of Chicago wanted to renovate three existing classrooms into one large computer lab space with a separate conference area for group tutoring and a lobby/entry space for studying and small group meetings. KOO worked with City Colleges’ staff and faculty and developed custom interior design elements inspired by math concepts, supporting the client’s goal to redefine the perception of mathematics among the student population.

The project was completed in August of 2014, and was so successful that City Colleges enlisted KOO to design Math Emporia at the six other City Colleges.
