POPE SCHOOL ADAPTIVE REUSE

Preservation | Renovation | ResidentialCivic

Pope Elementary School was a Chicago Public School closed in 2015 and was transferred to the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) to be reused as offices for CHA’s Housing Choice Voucher program and 19 residential units. This adaptive reuse project includes an existing Auditorium that is being restored to be used for Ravinia’s Reach, Teach, Play music program currently housed in Douglas Park. The scope of work included a roof replacement, facade restoration, formal garden, parking lot, full interior restoration and renovation. The interior design was inspired by existing Art Deco motifs that were present in the historical foyer. In order to meet CHA’s aggressive construction schedule, the project was phased into three bid packages.
