Saucdeo Scholastic Academy is a monumental Chicago Public School building with landmark status. KOO was tasked with addressing the maintenance issues that have occurred over years due to water infiltration various roof and plumbing failures. The scope of the project included roof replacement, the complete restoration of the massive amount of decorative terracotta on the exterior façade and parapets. The technical challenge was to conduct repairs that would extend the longevity of the beautiful masonry while maintaining budget and preserving the building’s original appearance.
The interior of the school had long suffered from failing paint and plaster, corridor ramps that provided inadequate accessibility, and failing flooring materials. KOO’s design addressed these issues and provided classroom upgrades such as new technology infrastructure to bring the school up to a twenty-first century learning environment.
